Types of Braces
It often surprises our patients to learn that we offer more than one type of braces. But we actually offer four! This makes it easy for patients to get the treatment they need in a way that fits their lifestyle. Here are your braces options when you work with us.
Traditional Metal Braces
The most common type of braces used are traditional metal braces. When you think about braces, these are the ones you imagine. However, you should know they have greatly improved over the years. Now, they are smaller in profile, lighter in weight, more effective in results, and made from better materials. And since you can customize them in terms of colors and sometimes bracket shape, they allow for plenty of personalization.
These braces are similar to traditional metal braces, but with some specific improvements that make them smaller in profile and more effective in generating results. They do not need elastic ties, using a sliding mechanism to hold the wire in place and direct force to the teeth. This allows for less pressure on the teeth, so they are more comfortable while also delivering faster results.
Clear braces use either clear plastic brackets or translucent ceramic brackets. This helps to make them less visible than metal brackets. As downsides, they stain more easily and can also break, especially the ceramic brackets. However, when used by the right patients and placed on the upper front teeth, they work quite well.
The most famous provider of clear aligners is Invisalign, though other companies have entered the field. These are an alternative to braces that use invisible, removable, comfortable plastic aligners instead of metal brackets and wires. They allow patients to correct their smile discreetly while also making brushing, flossing, and eating easier than with braces.back to top
